Workshops

Encouraged by the popularity of my workshops at Jersey's Textile Showcase each year and the welcome I received at The Creative Stitches and Hobbycrafts Event, Exeter in September 2009, I have been working to market myself as a travelling tutor.
Until recently I had considered the cost of visiting UK venues from Jersey as prohibitive, but with rising UK costs this is not always so. Air travel can be affordable, especially when booked well in advance.

I am an experienced, well-qualified tutor and am constantly updating my programme to reflect developments in my own work so that the following workshops are just suggestions, intended to give some idea of the range of skills I offer. Of course I am able to tailor courses to suit individual requirements.












Embellishments for Craft Projects
Learn how to make a variety of trimmings designed for textile jewellery, but useful for many craft projects, using felt, lace, gimp and beads.
Combine your treasures to create a corsage or pendant.

Lace and Beaded Ornament
Make a beautiful pendant or brooch using vintage lace, fabric paints, beads and spangles.
Use a range of simple techniques to create your own design and add a pin or ribbon to complete a brooch or necklace.

Basic Beading Techniques
Design and make a beautiful beaded necklace.
Learn basic threading techniques, how to choose beads, threads and findings and use them to create your own design.
Guidance on colour and design will be given, together with ideas on how to use beads for more complex projects.

Textile Portraits
Reproduce a portrait photo and add charm with fabric and hand-stitching. Learn how to enlarge the photograph, transfer to fabric and add colour and shade in simple steps. Use easy hand stitching to highlight detail and add beads and metallic threads for extra sparkle.
This is the technique used by Christine when working on The Marilyn Jackets.
Students must supply a suitable photograph.

Felt and Fabric Flowers
Learn how to make the sculpted felt flowers that Christine uses in her lovely floral necklaces. Create foliage using ribbons, wire, lace and beads. Then combine these elements to make a pretty posy brooch or buttonhole

Poseable Character Dolls
Use simple techniques and scrap materials to make your choice of doll. This is a fun workshop with limited sewing skills required and lots of imagination.

Textile Jewellery
Create a unique and beautiful textile necklace using scraps of fabric, felts, beads and spangles.
Learn how to fit a clasp to cord, create decorative trimmings and complete the necklace within the session, so that you can enjoy wearing it.
