Textile Jewellery
I have recently begun to work on a range of textile jewellery.
It combines my interest in embroidery together with my skill in jewellery-making and is proving to be popular. In fact the textile jewellery has been so well received that I am convinced it is the way to move forward and am very excited about its possibilities.
The Garland Series of necklaces are made of hand-dyed felt, stiffened and shaped into flowers.
They are decorated with leaves, lace flowers, butterflies and beads. Each necklace is set with a different range of materials and effects to achieve its unique character. Flowers and trimmings are mounted on cotton furnishing cord and secured with a barrel clasp.
These necklaces are designed to be worn loosely around the neck.
The butterfly pendants are beaded and hand-embroidered in silks and metallic threads onto a black velvet background. They are edged with twisted silver thread and feature rhinestone detail. The pendants are backed with black leather, strung on furnishing cord and fastened with a barrel clasp.
They are designed to fit closely, but comfortably around the neck.
The Jazz Series are composed of gimp spirals, backed with black leather and set with beaded felt baubles. They are decorated with a range of trimmings, including vintage buttons, spangles and abalone chips.
The necklaces are mounted on black furnishing cord and fastened with a barrel clasp.
They are designed to fit loosely around the neck.
The Vintage Jazz Series are a development of the Jazz Series. They are composed of silk and velvet discs, backed with black leather and set with felt baubles which are bound with metallic thread. The discs are often embroidered and decorated with spangles, natural stone chips, buttons and metal ornament from my vintage collection.
The necklaces are mounted on black furnishing cord and fastened with a barrel clasp.
They are designed to fit loosely around the neck.
The Fiesta Series are composed of silk discs set with felt-trimmed, silver metal sunflowers. The centre of each flower is embellished with pewter foiled leather. The discs alternate with felt baubles which are bound with metallic thread. The necklaces are mounted on black furnishing cord and fastened with a barrel clasp.
They are designed to fit loosely around the neck.
The Rococo Series feature hand-made beads of painted lace or felt, studded with seed beeds and strung with beautiful natural stones.
I have made this range in different lengths and chosen to present the longer length necklaces as details to better show their quality. Enlargements show the actual length of necklace.
They are fastened with a barrel clasp.
The Organic Jazz Series are a further development of the original Jazz Series.
They feature discs of hand-dyed gimp, alternating with discs of textured ribbon, embellished with seed beads and natural stone chips. Balls of soft velvet complete the design.
All the components of the necklace are backed with black leather, mounted on furnishing cord and fitted with a barrel clasp. They are designed to fit loosely around the neck.
The Vacation Series of necklaces are composed of alternating large and small embroidered discs. This simple design in a range of bright colours and fabrics is easy to wear and made me think of holiday jewellery.

The Organics Series represent an exciting new technique. Strong wire is bound with ribbon and shaped to form the structure of each necklace. This is stitched onto a band of furnishing cord and embellished with beads and natural stone chips.

The Posy Series represents another development of my technique base. These necklaces combine the rouched ribbon technique used on the organics necklaces with spirals of metallic thread and padded felt balls. They are more linear and flowing than my other series and the colours are more random. Mounted on a circle of furnishing cord and fitted with a barrel clasp, they are designed to fit loosely around the neck.
They are great fun to make and to wear.
