Lace Necklaces

Lace Necklaces

The lace necklaces combine my skills as a bead-worker and textile artist.

Each design is composed of fragments of vintage lace, carefully pieced together, painted and treated in several stages to stiffen, strengthen and protect. They are sometimes embroidered, beaded or set with gems and often include found objects from my vintage collection, perhaps a butterfly or a carved ivory rose.

The necklaces are backed with leather to protect them from the skin’s natural oils and strung with complementary beads, then fastened with a barrel clasp.
They are designed to fit fairly closely to the neck, are light and comfortable to wear and far more robust than their composition suggests.

As far as I know I am the only artist working in this way with vintage lace. The necklaces are really very special.
